New Hope Auto Show - Sunday, August 15, 2010

I'd been planning to go the New Hope car show for about a month, and was going to be dragging [livejournal.com profile] mashfanficchick along with me. Not that the dragging required much effort. When she couldn't come, I decided to go on my own anyway. And I'm really glad I did, even though having company would have been even more brilliant.

The weather was kind of gray and dreary, and show cars were still arriving when I got there. As per usual, I managed to miss one of the turns, but I figured it out and found the parking area pretty easily. I ended up only staying for about three hours, but I crammed a lot of drooling into those hours.

A lot of the cars I've never seen in person and up close before, one of those being the new Ford GT. I've known about it from Top Gear, and while I thought the pictures of it were absolutely gorgeous, I never quite got Jeremy Clarkson's obsession with it before. Oh, yeah, well, I totally get it now. Every time I tried to explore somewhere different, I found myself drifting back towards that section. I must have wandered over five or six separate times.

Next to the Ford GTs were a couple of stunningly gorgeous Ferraris. I only recently found out that there is a place too far from me where I can go to test drive one, but I haven't made it over there yet, which means I've never seen a Ferrari in person. Oh, so much beautiful.

Since all the card I really wanted to see seemed to be relatively close to each other, I'll move on to the Aston Martins. There were only two there (that I saw), but they were good ones. One was the Aston Martin Vantage and the other was the DB5, also known as the James Bond car.

The Maseratis were next. And here's where a really great story happened. Well, it doesn't translate very well to retelling, but it was brilliant while it was happening. Almost all the cars at the show had signs that asked people not to touch them, which is completely understandable. But as I was taking pictures of one particular Maserati, the owner came up to me, and asked if I'd like to sit in it? I just kind of stared at him, and said, "Seriously?!" And he opened the door, asked for my camera, and let me pretend, for just a few minutes, that I could own something like it! I've never been the biggest fan of Maseratis, at least not compared to other cars, but damn it if I'm not one now.

Okay, before I continue gushing about Maseratis and their owners, I'll move on to the very awesome Alfa Romeos. I've toyed with the desire to own one on occasion, but never really thought about it too seriously. They are beautiful, slightly quirky looking cars, and I do believe I love them.

Jags are another car that I see a bunch of the new models on the roads, but I don't often see the older ones. I wish I could though, they're damn elegant cars!

And now I've got a bunch of pictures of random cars with no rambling stories attached.

Gorgeous, amazing, brilliant car that I can't find my note on what it is!

And here's a comparison for you, the 1966 Morgan and the new Morgan Aeromax.

All I can say about the next one is, who would want to?

And then there was the love story. This should be prefaced by saying that I first of all should never have allowed myself to stop and stare at the motorcycles. What I should have done was stick with cars and ignore the motorcycles completely. But I couldn't. Because I've got an obsession with bikes that rivals damn near anything else. So I went to look at the motorcycles. And while I've always known that I want one eventually, I've never been able to pin point exactly which one. So what do I do? Fall in love with a bike that I will never in my life be able to own. A 1929 Indian 402. The most beautiful, perfect, amazing motorcycle that I've ever seen. That I will see in my dreams for eternity.
